Pit bulls are traditionally bred to be vicious fighters and they have been known to maul, to maim and to kill.

This was the editorial in a recent newspaper that I read. It made me think about Pit Bulls and there reputation. I like most of you have seen the articles about Pit Bulls attacking other animals as well as attacking humans. In some cases even killing humans. But it also made me wonder is this behavior in every Pit Bull? Is it the behavior of a mistreated dog? Would mistreated dogs of most big breads react in the same way?

Please give me your opinions by commenting on this post. I would like to think it is not just a problem with that breed, but the handling and treatment of this bread causes the issues.

What do you think.

Despite a cultural reluctance to spend more than 30 minutes making dinner, a growing number of Americans are happy to invest plenty of time - and money - cooking up gourmet grub for their domesticated partners.

This is a long way from whipping up the occasional kitty treat or dumping table scraps into the dog’s bowl.

This is about rejecting commercial animal foods and regularly preparing fancy people food for pets. And it’s a trend that has spawned its own industry of cookbooks, consultants, pet food bakeries, Web sites, even a column in a national food magazine.

The cat is being credited with waking up Edward Rooney after a fire started in his North Norwich home.

Fire officials say Rooney was asleep on a living room couch Tuesday morning when the frisky cat awoke him. Rooney discovered the fire in a bedroom and called the fire department. He was treated for smoke inhalation; the pets weren’t hurt.

Investigators say the blaze was caused by an electrical malfunction in a VCR.

A recent report by Dr. Robert Blalock made the above assumption. It stated that in two separate research studies, Dr. Erika Friedmann determined that people who were recovering from a heart attack were five to eight times more likely to be alive one year after they were discharged from the hospital if they had a pet than if they didn’t. This was true even when controlling for severity of illness, demographic characteristics and physiologic profiles suggesting that the relationship itself with the animal was the key predictor of survival rates.

Other studies show that Alzheimer’s patients have fewer anxious outbursts and fewer mood disorders when there is an animal in the home. Cats seem particularly suited for this setting since the caregivers often feel less burdened by a cat who may require less daily care by them than a dog.

We recently accepted an offer of to adopt a dog from a friend who was moving and could no longer keep it. Suzie, the new dog, is a just over 1 year old Jack Russell and is a very cute dog. As we already had three cats and had just lost a dog to cancer about a year and a half ago, we put quite a bit of thought into this before we accepted. You can see her picture on the left side of this blog.

I will be making upgrades and adding features to this blog so that I can tell the story of our pets and share interesting news and articles about pets around the world. I hope you enjoy it.
